Skyline loses rematch

Skyline saw its three-game winning streak come to an end when the Eagles lost to Olympus 54-45. The loss places some uncertainty as to where Skyline will finish in the region standings, and who it will play in the state tournament.

Taylorsville loss ends state hopes

By losing to Viewmont 64-32, Taylorsville saw its slim chance to qualify for the state tournament come to an end. With one game remaining the Warriors can still match last season’s win total of four, but the team will have to wait until next season to break its six-year streak of not playing in the state tournament.

Intermountain Christian clinches 2nd place in region

Intermountain Christian clinched second place in Region 17 by defeating Mount Vernon 74-43. The Lions will be making their third straight trip to the Class 1A state tournament, which gets under way Feb 29.

Hillcrest headed to state tournament

Hillcrest squeaked out a one-point overtime win over Herriman, which means the Huskies will be headed to the state tournament for the first time since 2007. Hillcrest has been carried by Austin Adams and Tanner Dastrup and will need to play its best basketball of the year to earn a state tournament win.

 

Cottonwood loses on Senior Night

Cottonwood played a good game against the second place team in its region, Alta, but it wasn’t enough as the Colts fell 42-39. Ryan Mackay scored 16 points in the loss, which was the last home game for the 12 seniors on Cottonwood’s roster.

 

Olympus still alive for region title

Olympus earned a bit of revenge for an earlier loss when the Titans defeated Skyline 54-45. With the win, Olympus finds itself tied atop the region standings and, depending on how things play out this week, the team could earn its first region title since 2009.
