Bingham guards take control as Miners move up region standings
With their 53-44 win over Pleasant Grove, Bingham avenged a loss from earlier in the season and vaulted up to third place in Region 4. Seniors Cody Benson and Jake Bagley did a good share of the heavy lifting, knocking down five 3-pointers and scoring a combined 28 points. Every time out this team gets better, but a dangerous Riverton squad that can hit triples against anyone is on the schedule Friday.

Waddoups continues to pace Cavemen
As the calendar rolls into February, American Fork senior Austin Waddoups is only elevating his game. Waddoups dropped 19 points on the road at Lehi as the Cavemen improved to 14-2 with a 62-51 win. The Cavemen get another shot at Lone Peak and Waddoups, Quincy Bair, Marcel Davis and the rest of this group have a lot of angst and frustration to get out. While extremely talented, American Fork will have to make free throws, defend the perimeter and take their already superb game to the next level.
Slow third quarter dooms Pioneers
Trailing by one at the half, Lehi was outscored 14-5 in the third period of their 62-51 loss to American Fork. Despite falling to fourth in Region 4, Lehi has played American Fork tough twice and given Lone Peak a battle so this team is capable of a postseason run, they just have to make it there. There are a couple of big games left for this squad, starting with Friday versus Pleasant Grove and the following Friday at Riverton. Colton Colledge, averaging 18 points per game, has turned into one of the best players in the 5A ranks.
Spencer Pincock leads as Vikings fall to Bingham
Friday’s game at Lehi couldn’t be any bigger for the Vikings. Lose and there is likely no playoff berth. Win and the middle of Region 4 suddenly becomes jumbled mess. The Vikings Jan. 13 win over Bingham remains their only region victory but Bingham repaid the favor with a 53-44 win at Bingham. Senior Spencer Pincock scored 13 points but Pleasant Grove had a slow first period that ultimately proved to be their downfall. It’s crunch time, and with no more room for slow starts or bad finishes, the Vikings need to play a consistent 32 minutes of tough basketball the rest of their games this season.
Silverwolves still have a shot at Class 5A playoffs
Lone Peak handed the Silverwolves a 56-36 loss as 6-foot-7 junior Richard Worsham led the 8-9 Riverton squad with 14 points. With a 1-5 region record, you still can’t pencil this crew out of the 5A playoffs. With a big game at Bingham on Friday, Riverton closes the regular season with home games against Pleasant Grove and Lehi. Stephan Holm and D McCleary are terrific from the guard line, and with Worsham’s continued development, the Silverwolves still have control of their destiny.
Haws leads Knights past Riverton
It’s hard to remember that Lone Peak guard T.J. Haws is just a sophomore. Haws showed off the entire arsenal in a 56-36 win over Riverton where he produced 22 points and eight rebounds. Chase Hansen added seven rebounds against Riverton for a club that will surely need his presence at some point in the next month. There are not enough superlatives to describe how big Friday’s contest at American Fork is for the players involved. Get there early — hours early — if you have intentions of finding a seat.
