State seeding on the line for IMC
By winning the final two games on its schedule, Intermountain Christian could enter the state tournament as the No. 2 seed from Region 17. A split seems likely, as the Lions will face St. Joseph, who is undefeated in region play, and Concordia Prep, who is winless. That scenario would put Intermountain Christian in the tournament as the No. 3 team from the region.
Brighton can lock up second place
With a strong week, Brighton can ensure themselves second place in Region 3. The Bengals will face Cottonwood and Copper Hills — teams they have already defeated this season — and with a two game lead over Cottonwood, simply winning those games will ensure Brighton its highest region finish since 2009.
Olympus earns key region win
The Titans were able to get some breathing room in the Region 7 race as they defeated third-place Hillcrest 52-40. Rachel VanderToolen recorded a double-double in the win for Olympus, who will go on the road for two games, before ending the season at home against region-leading Skyline.
Skyline doubles up Mustangs and Spartans
Skyline’s offensive power was on full display as the Eagles defeated Herrmann 54-25 and then blew out Murray 71-21. The only region team that has played Skyline close is Westlake, who the Eagles defeated by six earlier this season. Those teams will face off again on Friday, and if Skyline can come away with a win they will likely finish region play undefeated.
Cottonwood 3-point shots not enough
The Colts hit nine 3-point shots against West Jordan, but it wasn’t enough as Cottonwood fell 53-51. With the loss, the Colts are now tied with West Jordan for third place in Region 3. With upcoming games against Brighton and Alta, Cottonwood will need to fight to earn a trip to the state tournament.
