Skyline handed first region loss

Skyline was unable to hang on to a nine-point first half lead and fell to Herriman 48-41. It’s the first region loss for the Eagles, who had been cruising to a region title. With only two weeks remaining in the regular season, Skyline can’t afford another slip-up if they hope to earn their first region title since 2005.

Taylorsville needs to win out

With only one region win, and four region games remaining, Taylorsville needs to win every game to earn a trip to the state tournament. Even if that doesn’t happen the future looks bright as the Warriors are a young team and the experience gained this season can help next year.

IMC seeking second straight region title

Three Intermountain Christian players, Michael Fox, Mikey Boettger and Zach Page, combined to score 58 points as the Lions defeated West Ridge Academy 60-30. The Lions are currently in second place in Region 17 and if they can continue their offensive success, they will be in line to earn a region title for the second year in a row.

After starting the season 4-1, Hillcrest has gone 3-9 and has yet to win two region games in a row. Hillcrest will need to improve quickly as a loss to Murray, who they face on Friday, will knock them out of a playoff spot.

Cottonwood can’t keep pace with West Jordan

The second half of region play started exactly the same way the first half did for Cottonwood: a big loss to West Jordan. The Colts are struggling in region play and only have four games remaining to earn a region win. Parker Swope and Ryan Mackey have combined to hit 45 3-point shots for Cottonwood.

Olympus back in title hunt

Olympus rebounded from its first region loss by picking up wins over Murray and Hillcrest. In news that is just as good for the Titans, region-leading Skyline lost a game, so if Olympus can win the four games left on the schedule, the Titans will pick up the region crown.
