The Woods Cross boys’ basketball team attacked the rim all night against Bountiful, and the Braves got to the free-throw line early and often. There was just one problem — actually making those foul shots.

The Wildcats’ inept shooting from the charity stripe allowed the Braves to run away with a 63-44 victory.

Woods Cross shot just 9-25 from the line, while Bountiful was 16-18. Bountiful had the freedom to tailor their game plan because of the slew of misses by Woods Cross.

Braves’ center Brock Yates said they were able to take more chances on defense against the Wildcats.

"We were able to be much more aggressive," Yates said. "Going into the fourth quarter, we knew we could afford to foul them because they would only make one, maybe."

That fourth quarter strategy worked to perfection. Entering the final period, Bountiful was clinging to a 37-34 lead. They opened the quarter with 23-5 scoring run to ice the game.

It didn’t matter how many points the Braves went up by, they never let up. They were playing like the team trying to come from behind even when they led by 15 points. For most of the fourth quarter, Bountiful was in a full-court press in an effort to put the game away.

Bountiful guard Brit Harding, who led all scorers with 17 points, said they did everything right defensively.

"We take pride in our defense," Harding said. "We play aggressive all the time, which is why we like to press and that helped us a lot."

Harding also said it was the most complete game they have played all season. He said the Braves need to build upon this win to finish out the season strong.

"We played a really good team game. We moved the ball, boxed out to get rebounds and we communicated on defense," Harding said. "Woods Cross is a good team, so we were glad to come away with the win."
