West
The Panthers have gotten to half of their win total from 2010 (six) just seven games into the season. There is plenty of time for West to trump its total from last year. Samantha Unruh had 13 kills in a 3-0 win over Highland Sept. 1. Kearns got the best of the Panthers on Sept. 13, 3-1, to get West off to the wrong kind of start in Region 2.
East
The Leopards came up with a gritty win against Herriman on Sept. 1. It took five sets, but East came up with the win. Gui Palaez had 10 kills and three aces and Ana Tupounia added seven kills. East will try to keep the momentum rolling when it gets into Region 6 play.
Highland
So far, it appears that the Rams will again spend the season fighting to stay out of last place in Region 6. With an 0-5 start, Highland isn't off to a confidence-building beginning. The Rams will have to fight through tough times to compete in Region 6 and improve upon early results.
Judge Memorial
The Bulldogs went 6-3 at the Labor Day Classic, dominating the competition before ending the day with losses to Bingham and Woods Cross. Judge has jumped to a 3-0 start in Region 14 thanks in part to a 3-1 win over Uintah on Sept. 13. Ginny Hicks had 12 kills and 14 digs, Shea Zanolli had 11 kills and Taylor Gustafson provided 16 assists.
Park City
The Miners are off to a disappointing 0-4 start but have been competitive. Park City took Wasatch to five sets in a loss Sept. 8 and made Juan Diego work for a 3-2 win Sept. 13. It seems the Miners are close to a win or two and a middle-of-the-pack finish in Region 10.
Rowland Hall
For all the success the Winged Lions enjoyed in a 13-5 preseason, they would gladly replace it with a win in their region opener against North Summit on Sept. 15 that ended in a 3-0 loss. Still, Shelby Matsumura and her teammates will be a strong contender in Region 14 and beyond.
