Orem • Forget about the post-upset letdown. If Snow Canyon's surprise win against Spanish Fork on Wednesday drained them at all, it sure didn't show against East.

The Warriors hardly missed a beat in a full takedown of the Leopards, knocking around East pitchers for a 12-2 win in five innings. In doing so, Snow Canyon put itself one win away from its third baseball championship and its first since 2007.

"Our coach told us we had to keep the same intensity," catcher Jake Brown said. "We knew we had to consider [a letdown], so we just came out and played our game today."

After East took a 1-0 lead in the first, it was Snow Canyon's game. The Warriors scored 12 runs in the next three innings on eight hits, six walks and three errors. East recorded only one strikeout on the day.

Snow Canyon starter Austin Ovard had a good day as well, striking out 11. Ovard did give up nine hits, but seven East runners were stranded.

"It seems to me when guys get on base, our defense buckles down," Ovard said. "If a ball gets to them, they make the plays."

Their opponent for the title game will be Spanish Fork, which entered the tournament as the favorite in 4A — until the Warriors beat them Wednesday, knocking them out of the winners' bracket. Since then, the Dons have beaten their three opponents by a combined 43-2, tearing through the one-loss teams.

But Snow Canyon has played only one game since then and boasts a number of pitchers with fairly fresh arms. Plus, they could have a mental edge since they've already beaten Spanish Fork in the tournament.

Dons coach Shoe Nelson acknowledged that his lineup's hitting had been torrential since their loss. But he claimed to be less confident about the prospect of beating the Warriors twice for the program's third title, saying it would take a "miracle."

"We're going to have to throw some guys that have pitched in the last few days," Nelson said.

Snow Canyon shouldn't expect anything less than Spanish Fork's best shot this time around — particularly if the Dons' past three games are any indication.

"I think we've really come back with intensity," Dons catcher Jarrett Jarvis explained.

Spanish Fork 23, East 0 • The Leopards were overmatched and outgunned by a hard-hitting Dons team and starting pitcher Brady Corless, who pitched a complete-game shutout.

Spanish Fork 9, Mountain Crest 2 • The Dons took a 2-0 lead in the second inning and never let up against the Mustangs. —
