The Tribune relives the heady days of the 2002 Winters Olympics in pictures — with a daily gallery from the torch relay to the Opening Ceremony, from Team USA’s medal haul to the fireworks-filled finale.

Feb. 22 » It turns out to be a day for the legends, as skier Janica Kostelic of Croatia claims her fourth medal and third gold of the Games by winning the women’s giant slalom, Norway’s Samppa Lajunen wins his third gold in Nordic combined and speedskater Jochem Uytdehaage of the Netherlands wins his second gold by setting a world record in the grueling men’s 10,000 meters. On the ice, both the Americans and Canadians win semi-final games to set a match-up in the men’s hockey gold-medal game.
